Foot It: Kiwi kids get on board with skating to school
In the push to get more kids footing it to and from school, schools are getting on board with skateboarding. Over the past four years OnBoard Skate school, the largest provider of in-school skateboard and scooter lessons in Auckland, has taught tens of thousands of Kiwi kids skating fundamentals, by taking over their traditional physical education classes.

Helping youth enjoy skateboarding has been his passion for the past three years, inspired by his son's love of the sport.
The Torbay resident founded OnBoard Skate in 2012, an organisation which provides skate programmes for schools in the Auckland region.

Teaching kids to skateboard in West Auckland
A generation of young West Aucklanders are learning to skate at school.
Funding from KiwiSport of about $32,000 is enabling 3500 kids from 15 primary schools out west to learn the basics of using a skateboard.
OnBoard Skate chief executive Steve Hodges says he started his company in 2012 to give kids an alternative to adult-controlled sport.

Skateboarding sessions boost girls confidence
An Auckland group that aims to encourage more women and girls to try skateboarding is holding sessions in Orewa.
Tanja Swanepoel started Sisters of Shred last year because she wanted more girls to feel confident enough to give skateboarding a try.

Snells Beach Host Community Skate day
Skateboarding will take centre stage at Snells Beach next month when Onboard Skate presents a Go Skateboard Day on January 16.
Organiser Steve Hodges says the day is open to all ages, “including Mums and Dads”.
All skateboards and safety equipment will be supplied, and a skate competition will be run in the afternoon for skaters aged 13 and over.

Building a female skateboard community in the Manawatu region.
OnBoard Skate is helping build a community of female skateboarders and longboarders in the Manawatu region. A Girls Skateboard Crew has been established in the region to provide opportunities for girls and women to learn the skills of skateboarding and/or longboarding in a supportive, non-judgmental female environment.
